Help me give my students a second home (although for some it may be like a first home) that makes them feel happy, safe, and comfortable while instilling a love for learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first grade students are like sponges! It amazes me how much they can take in and retain just about everything and this year will be no different, despite COVID. Being bilingual makes them so twice as talented and special!
My Project
For most students in my classroom, first grade will be their first year attending school physically due to COVID. This means that more than ever, I must make sure to strategically work with small groups to target their needs.
To accomplish my goal, I need a kidney table, which has a curved place for the teacher and 3-4 other spots for students to sit.
With this set up, I can teach phonics through the use of flashcards, dictations, dry erase markers, and paper/pencil. Furthermore, a kidney table will allow me to implement guided reading, where all students take from the same reading level take turns to read, ask, and answer questions.
Having an easel will help provide students reinforce every they have learning during the week through shared writing, word work, visuals, and many other things!
Ultimately, having a kidney table and an easel in my classroom will let me provide all my students with an interactive and comfortable small group instruction time.
