My Students

"Could you see if you can find this book for me?" I'll never forget the day that one of my students, who swore the first day I met her that she hated reading and would never enjoy it, started making book requests when she heard I was going to a used book store. Or another student, who told a friend, "Read this. It will take you on a journey you can't possibly imagine!"

This is why I do what I do.

I want to show my students that learning isn't just something you do at school. It's something that gives you the key to a door that opens to a whole new world ready for you to explore. Students enter worlds they never knew existed and understand concepts they never dreamed to imagine.

My students are a group of wild, independent, and vastly different people that, without realizing it, end up teaching me more than I could ever teach them.

My Project

I want my fifth grade students to have a beginning understanding of how the world works as it relates to finances and money. My students live in a credit card/PayPal world and never truly understand how finances and responsible choices play into the things they get to purchase and enjoy.

I know the best way to reach my students is through high interest novels.

What better way to teach a child about the power of financial knowledge than to read about children their age who are already entrepreneurs? That’s what this book can help with! I would like to ultimately have several sets so I can have different “books clubs” on each novel and then students can present what they’ve learned to their classmates. This way my students are not only learning something new but also teaching it to their peers.
