Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A majority of my students come from low-income households, a wide range of ethnicities, and a dual language program. Even though they come from hard backgrounds, every day they enter the classroom with their brilliant smiling faces energized, eager, and full of wonder.

They are dreamers, believers, inquirers, debaters; they are the future.

They know more than they realize and already I know they will go far. Scientists, doctors, lawyers, teachers, they each hold a special quality within them that will take them far in life. I find every day that they are the ones inspiring me. It is my goal to do everything I can to help guide and prepare them for the world!

My Project

Last year I transitioned to kindergarten and so I was not sure what to expect. As the year went on, I reflected, made notes of what items would be needed for the following school year: felt pens, more picture books, and bowling pin sets. The resources are needed to help ensure my classroom recieves the best possible learning experiences.

"Kindergarten children are confident in spirit, infinite in resources, and eager to learn, everything is still possible- Robert Fulghum."

It is amazing how many stories are read to and told within a kindergarten classroom. I read through every picture book within our room and need additonal picture book resources. The picture books will be used throughout the day as our class read alouds. As the year goes on, the books are then released to the students to read during, read to self time, and/or during literacy rotations.

It was amazing to see and read kindergarteners at work during our writers workshop. During workshop, students are allowed to use felt pens instead of pencils. It seems that with given this choice, they are more eager to write and/or add more details to their pictures because they are using the felt pen. I am hoping my new group are just as eager to write when using the felt pens this upcoming year.

Kindergarteners love math and it was my goal to figure out other ways to make it even more fun. While learning subtraction, I thought it would be fun for students to play bowling, to practice thier computation, and relate it to a realworld experince.
