Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our engineering program encourages all of our students to be part of our Robo Knights Robotics FIRST team # 9040. In 2025 it will be our third season participating in FIRST Robotics Competition.

We want to advance our students’ skillset and programming knowledge by introducing them to swerve drive!

Swerve drive will help improve all students’ robotics skills by providing hands-on experience to build, install, program and drive robots with swerve drive. This skillset will help propel them into college-level learning and improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Here are a few of the advantages of swerve drive:

* Omni-directional steering: Swerve drives can move sideways and translate at an angle, and the robot always moves in the same direction regardless of its orientation.

* Reliability: Swerve drives can perform well on non-ideal surfaces.

* Flexibility: Swerve drives can operate in different drive modes that can be switched through software.

* Serviceability: Swerve drives are modular, so individual swerve modules can be swapped out if needed.

* Programable: Each wheel in a swerve drive is powered by two motors, one for steering and one for speed, which gives the robot a greater degree of freedom when programmed. Using MAX controllers, each wheel can be customized and programed.
