Help me give my students an opportunity to learn math concepts while playing the International game of soccer with soccer balls we will modify for mathematics.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students will play soccer games on a field marked with shapes, numbers, and specially modified soccer balls. The balls will be marked with numbers to help increase math fluency as students multiply by numbers kicked on the ball to a partner helping them with (math and soccer) drills.
The field will be marked with a center circle that measures angles and various other shapes will be marked on the field such as the goalie box and penalty box.
Young students can learn their shapes and a real life application of the shapes.
Students will be able to learn multiplication tables, coordinates, geometric shapes and more with an emphasis in math and moving.
Moving adds another neuron based aspect to accessing the information and should lead to better math performance by strengthening pathways.
Soccer is engaging for our international students and will build relationships with our emerging bilingual students. This field can be utilized by all grade levels, PE, special education, ESL, GT and all math classes. Books to inspire reading and support the math curriculum are also included.
