Kick Start 9th Grade With Freshman Success Starter Kits
My students need basic school supplies such as notebooks, file folders, and pencils to be prepared for the transition to high school.
This project expired on September 16, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have unique traditions and practices that I love to learn about from them first hand. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, a positive environment, and unique experiences.
What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.
Each year, I learn a great deal about my students and about the experiences they've had and the places they've been. In a world where new technology and traditional education is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me as a teacher to expose my students to special opportunities, unique trips, and a comfortable setting where learning is evident and expected, and students will remain engaged so that we can try new things and always remain successful!
This project allows me to make each and every one of our new freshman feel welcomed to school for the 2018-2019 school year. I want to be sure that my students feel that they fit in, no matter when they begin at HPHS.
One of our new strategies as teachers is to provide each 9th grade student with a Freshman Success Starter Kit at the beginning of the school year.
Included in these kits will be the basic needs: folders, notebooks, pencils, and highlighters for each student. In collaboration with the 9th grade team of teachers, we are planning to work on strengthening our students' organizational skills, class preparation, and overall good student habits and want to make sure that all of our students have the appropriate materials.
While some of our students have access to basic school supplies, many of our students do not and we would like to make sure the playing field is even for every student. The most basic note taking supplies are included in this project and will go inside a Freshman Success Starter Kit that will be given to 9th grade students during the first week of school.
