Musical, creative, inquisitive, energetic...these are all words that describe my students. They love to sing, move, play instruments, and learn in hands-on ways. They love to use drums, Orff instruments, and ukuleles in our music room, and they love to perform.
Around 25% of our students come from military families, and this brings them their own unique set of challenges.
We have also received new students from Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria. I want to teach them a love for music that will last them their whole lives, wherever they may find themselves.
My Project
Our new piano lab is ready to be installed in June, and now my focus is my students' curriculum and books to help them learn keyboarding. Learning to play piano is a wonderful skill that will help develop students' brains and give them confidence.
I am requesting copies of Keyboard Kickoff, a method book to help students learn piano.
I am working towards a class set of these books that our students can use in the piano lab. Students will use these books during our piano unit. The books give great instruction in the layout of the piano keyboard as well as identifying notes on the staff. With one book at each piano, students will be able to learn these early skills and receive a solid piano foundation.
