My Students

History is integrated all across the curriculum at the school I teach at. My students love seeing history come alive in the classroom and the connections they can make in all of the core subjects with history. They love when history is told as a story and when literature, hands-on activities, and Socratic Seminars are used. They also enjoy seeing each major event in history displayed on a timeline that is required in all of the classrooms at our school.

The resources for history are limited as our school is small and opened up two years ago.

The 6th graders study the Middle Ages, which is a fun time period to learn about. When the lessons are interesting, they engage in their learning and get excited about it. They also excel at encouraging each other in their learning.

My Project

One of the keys to having a good vocabulary is an understanding of Greek and Latin roots as this is what many of the words in our English language are built upon. In an effort to help my scholars understand our language, especially scientific and other areas of academic language, the books I have chosen will help them understand Greek and Latin roots and apply it to their everyday lives.

Practicing Greek and Latin roots in various ways will help my scholars retain the meanings of each root that is learned.

Right now I am expected to teach Greek and Latin roots without any resources with which to do so. I would love for my scholars to have the ability to practice each root in multiple ways following a sequential manner. It also will give me the capability to plan fun activities that correspond to the roots they are learning on a weekly basis. These resources will help my scholars to be successful in retaining the roots they learn since they will give them multiple ways to practice each root. It also will help me to give my scholars a better understanding of each root with carefully chosen examples. I want to set my scholars up for success, and these resources will help me in being able to reach that goal.
