This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I Renaissance school located in Tampa, Florida. The demographics of the school are 64% Black, 20% Hispanic, 11% White and the remaining 5% are Asian, Multi and Indian. The majority of the students live in the neighborhood surrounding the school. We provide incentives for character education and positive behavior support to our students.
Our vision is for our students to become life-long learners.
Our main focus this school year is to focus on attendance, behavior, and academics.
My Project
One hundred percent of the materials purchased by this project will go directly to our students. Our students are rewarded monthly through school-wide Positive Behavior Support incentives and these materials will be used for our KES Kiosk. Our Kiosk is the most participated event and we hold it four times throughout the school year. Often our teachers and other volunteers provide the items for the Kiosk so that our students have a variety of items to choose from. The students look forward to using their school currency that they earn from school staff to purchase items.
Our students come from low income families and this is a great way to not only allow them to earn items, but also to learn how to save and purchase just like at a store.
The students will be excited to purchase the items from this project. We like to provide items that get the students excited. For this project, I have selected balls, sunglasses, slinky toys, rubber toys that stick when you throw them, bubbles, emoji items, rings, nail polish and other specific items that the students often ask for when they come to the Kiosk.
They will be motivated to earn more of the school currency so that they can participate and buy items from the store when they see the items that we have and that the items are things that they have personally requested. The students will show good character and be more willing to do the right thing so that their teachers allow them to participate in attending the Kiosk when it's open. We want to give our students positive incentives and show them that good things happen to those who make good choices.
