Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Due to our school having a population of students who want to challenge themselves with the game of chess, but we don't have enough supplies for everyone who wants to participate. The game of chess has successfully helped students to become well-rounded learners, who develop their mental disciplines, analytical skills, strategic thinking skills, and intellectual maturity by using chess game strategies.

Playing the game of chess can positively impact students by developing critical thinking skills, enhancing their memory skills, fostering concentration and focus, patience and perseverance, encourages social interaction, and managing their emotions when winning or losing a game.

Being able to handle victory in a game but also gracefully accepting defeat.

These items will help give opportunity to our KES Chess Club to continuing playing and practicing by providing the school with necessary materials to engage in the game of chess. The items that were requested were game mats, chess clocks, and 2 folding tables.

The goal for this project is to be able to reach as many students as possible in becoming more successful in learning the game of chess. I want students to develop their skills within the game, participate in tournaments and social events, and I would like to organize opportunities for community engagement. In order to maintain club growth and sustainability over time, increase club membership and participation to ensure long term success.

My students are the most determined and dedicated group of students I've had the pleasure of working with. Each student possesses unique talents, whether it's in chess or other areas. Some may excel in strategic thinking, while others might demonstrate exceptional creativity or analytical skills. The level perseverance and resilience are immeasurable. Their willingness to work through setbacks or losses and continue striving for improvement is a testament to their character and commitment.
