Keeping Warm, Growing Big, Fresh Eggs Next!

My Project

Middle school special needs students from low-income families have a great chance to hatch and raise chickens, making learning fun and hands-on! This exciting project will start with students using incubators to hatch fertilized eggs from local farms. They’ll build a cozy chicken coop for their new feathered friends and watch them grow, keeping journals to write down their experiences. Along the way, students will learn how to take care of the chickens and even grow their own chicken feed in a small garden, helping them understand how to be self-sufficient and care for the environment.

But that’s not all, this project also teaches students about running a small business by encouraging them to sell the eggs they collect!

They’ll explore pricing, budgeting, and marketing while creating a fun sales plan for local markets and community events. With support from teachers, parents, and the community, students will not only gain important skills but also make new friends. Overall, this project is a fantastic way to help students feel proud and confident as they learn and grow together!
