Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Where shall I begin? There are many reasons why I love my students, or as I refer to them "My Friends". Our classroom is a self-contained special education classroom. My friends require various level of support and accommodations across developmental continuum.
My students love to come to school.
Their smiling faces give me the drive to get up early morning, rain or shine. I like their different personalities, moods and level of energy. They try their hardest with any work presented to them, regardless of any limitations they may have.
But what I really love about them is how much they inspire me to do my job everyday. They give me opportunities to see how important it is to learn, to have friends, to fall and stand right back up and laugh. Most importantly, they remind me everyday to be patient and be accepting of others, no matter what.
My Project
The materials for my project will provide my students "friends" to learn and explore together using their five senses which is a major need for most special needs children. I also plan to create a lending station where my students can take home materials to promote family engagement and to extend practice and repetition of needed academic skills at home.
I sincerely hope that this project somehow finds a sponsor that will give an opportunity for me to continue to make a difference in the lives of many students, particularly those that are underserved.
