This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a large school with 800 students who all qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. I teach 24 second graders who are English Language Learners. My students come from families with limited resources but have a vast desire for their children to succeed. Parents often work two and three jobs to make ends meet. When I talk to them, I see the hope they have for their children to have a better life. Despite the hardships my students face, they come to school eager to learn and with a smile on their faces. My goal as their teacher is to foster a life-long love for learning and encourage them to be risk-takers.
My Project
My students love to read and learn about events that are happening in the world around them. The Scholastic News magazine will provide my students with a grade level, nonfiction text that is filled with current events. The magazine format will provide my students with a new reading experience.
Scholastic News will provide my students with the reading skills, vocabulary, and knowledge they need the most with engaging, standards-based lessons that integrate science, social studies, and language arts.
The magazine is packed with high-interest articles that students love to read.
The magazine will allow my students to engage in interesting and meaningful discussions.
