Keeping Up With Current Events!

My students need individual subscriptions to Scholastic News. Each issue contains several articles on current events that interest their age group. Plus, each issue comes with skills activities for the teacher to assign.

My Students

My classroom is a very diverse setting with students from low-income homes. Our school is a Title l school with high needs for extra materials that may help the students achieve their goals.

They are all extraordinary kids with big hearts and a broad range of interests, which is why subscriptions to a magazine that reports on current events is so important to their learning processes.

A Scholastic News magazine subscription for each of my students would be so beneficial in growing their minds and teaching them about world events that interest them in an informational text format.

My Project

The subscriptions will make a difference in the students' learning by allowing them access to informational text containing the most current trends and news that interests their age group. The students will each have their own personal magazine to use in class each week and to take home to read. It is important for our students to have a variety of genres available to them. A magazine that reports on so many topics of interest will be popular with my students! There is sure to be at least one article in each issue that captures the attention of all of my students and helps to build a love for reading, which builds the idea that reading is meaningful.
