This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kids who live in the city are used to being indoors and not having many opportunities to get exercise. With the pedometers I am requesting, my students will have the opportunity to not only exercise, but to track their movement too.
My students are well behaved children from low-income families.
Most of my students do not have the funds to be involved in outside physical activities. This means that their only opportunity for exercise is during my Physical Education class. I want to provide my students with not only the chance to participate in physical activity, but also the knowledge and skills to practice fitness outside the school day.
My Project
I have requested 6 extra pedometers to go with the 24 pedometers we are receiving. Unfortunately, class sizes are increasing which becomes a challenge in the physical education setting when it comes to providing equipment to all the students. These pedometers will be used by at least 600 students this year and thousands more to come.
My students will be excited to be able to track their physical progress.
Also, these pedometers will give my students motivation to keep on moving. Students love to move and know they will know how many steps they are taking.
This project is important to the health of our younger generation. It is vital that students start enjoying physical fitness young so that they will be active participants in the future!
