Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I K-5 Elementary School in NYC. Once upon a time, our students had an actual Science teacher who delivered science instruction 2 to 3 times a week in a science room. Due to school budget cuts, students no longer have access to science in a way that they should. I would like to raise money for K-5 students to experience science on a BioBus.

The BioBus is a mobile, solar-powered microscope lab that pulls right up to schools.

The BioBus mobile science lab parks in front of schools and gives teachers and students access to research many different science subject areas based on grade. On a typical day, 6 classes of up to 30 students each can board the bus. Lessons typically last 45 minutes and cover a variety of subjects. Teachers and families over the years have tried to find various ways to keep science alive amongst all the other subject areas that must be taught daily at our school. Having the BioBus visit our school is just another way to give students access and additional experiences with science subjects and help them grow as learners.

My Project

The BioBus, a mobile science lab, will teach our students a variety of science topics by allowing them to board the bus and learn through a hands-on mobile science lab. In one day, 6 classes of up to 30 students can board the bus for 45 minute hands-on lessons.

Our students will gain access to different science topics that will help them grow as learners to better understand the world around them.

We are trying to keep the learning of science alive by allowing our students a hands-on progressive opportunity to access the world around them. Through this BioBus opportunity, our students will learn the art of inquiry and allow the seeds of their curiosity to bloom.
