Many classrooms and schools across the country are moving towards an environment with flexible seating. Flexible seating is ideal in allowing students to move throughout the day in a space that keeps them engaged. Lap desks allow students to work on the rug comfortably, while the wobble chairs help them to maintain focus during lessons and independent work. These materials allow students the option to sit somewhere besides their tables and chairs.
Since all students have different academic strengths, it's important to switch how they work as they move through various subjects and academic tasks. Working with partners or teams is essential for students to clarify their own learning as well as being able to learn from each other. The flexibility of being able to read independently, in small groups and then coming together in a circle for whole group participation is supported best with furniture that facilitates movement and is easily portable. Furthermore, some students need a quiet space to concentrate. These students will be able to move their lap desk to a calm and quiet spot and allow them to focus independently and build their academic stamina.
