Keeping the Saxophone Safe!

My students need one alto saxophone case to keep our donated saxophone safe and a padded neck strap to help ease the weight of the instrument while playing.

My Students

"Make sure you keep this instrument safe!!" I can't tell you how many times I say this every single day, yet one of our saxophones is housed in a terrible old case with no padding and a zipper closure that all of my students have difficulty using!

I am the lucky teacher and band director at a rural farm country K-6 school in Vermont.

The school has about 260 students and my band currently has 50 students- 30 of them are using school-owned instruments that have been obtained through grants, donations and fundraising. Without these instruments, our band program would not be so large and students would not be able to participate because the cost of renting and purchasing instruments is simply too high for most parents.

My Project

We were lucky enough to have a saxophone donated to us from a resident who used it in high school. Thanks to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, the saxophone was completely repaired and made nearly like new, but this did not include a new case. The case it is in does not have any padding at all and it has a zipper closure that is just impossible for those little fourth grade fingers to manage. The instrument is not safe in the case and the child using the instrument this year has begged me multiple times for a new case, but we simply do not have the budget money to replace it right now. He is also a very small fourth grader who finds the weight of the instrument to be quite heavy. A new padded sax strap would ease the load and make playing easier.

Your generous donation will help us keep our saxophone in good working condition for years to come so that many students can continue to use the instrument.

The case will keep the instrument safe and snug, protected against the drops, bangs and bumps that elementary students subject instruments to one their way to and from school. The sax strap will make playing just a bit easy and more comfortable.
