My Project
In my classroom we have a large community carpet that we use many times throughout the day. Last week a donor showed us immense support and donated a brand new rug twice the size of our current rug, that will be loved for many years to come. With that being said, I'm now in my fourth year of teaching and have never had a classroom vacuum, or a Swiffer. With 33 students in and out of our classroom on a daily basis, there is a lot of dirt, crumbs, and spills that happen every day. Being able to clean up messes ourselves in a few minutes is a better use of time than waiting on custodial staff. I am asking for a new vacuum so that my students can continue to keep our carpet clean and learn cleaning skills themselves. Every day before dismissal, I have several students that love to earn ClassDojo points for helping me clean up our space.
Having items like a vacuum, a Swiffer, paper towels, and air fresheners will ensure we can have a clean, healthy, and welcoming learning environment to everyone who enters.
A tidy, good-smelling classroom not only reduces distractions, it also ensures that our young learners are in a healthy environment where they can focus on exploring new concepts without the worry of dirt or allergens. A cleaner classroom will provide them with a sense of pride in their space, teaching them about responsibility and the importance of taking care of their space.
