This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. Most of them have been at the school since kindergarten, and our school is special because we can really develop a close relationship with each individual student as they grow up.

As a school with a bilingual program, students are immersed in rigorous instruction in both English and Spanish.

There are numerous benefits to being bilingual, and students work very hard to access the curriculum despite it being a challenge. We have both Spanish-dominant and English-dominant speakers, which means that 100% of our students are second language learners.

My Project

It really is the little things that make a big difference. My students engage in a variety of activities in class requiring sticky notes. We go through them really fast and are always looking to getting more. Whether it's accessing prior knowledge, taking notes while reading a text to stick on the page to come back later or for jotting down a quick reminder for them to bring to their parents, it's always a go to tool.

Colored paper and cardstock will get our reading and math stations looking strong.

It makes a difference when I have important reference sheets available to my students in different colors. It also helps both my students and myself organized to make sure everything goes smooth. Of course, we can't leave out the writing tools. Mechanical pencils eliminate the loud disruption of the pencil sharpener in the classroom and pens/markers with erasers make the transition from pencil to pen smoother so students can easily erase their mistakes to make corrections. This leads to neater and legible work to grade later on.
