Keeping the Active in Activity! Games for Indoor Activity Periods
My students need a variety of fun, interesting, and educational games like Jenga, Connect 4, and Tenzi in order to remain active during their activity period over the cold winter months.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"You are the greatest teacher I've ever had!" I'm probably not the best teacher she's ever had, and definitely won't be the best she has by the time her schooling is done. What I am though, is on the front-end of providing classroom experiences in a district and an environment where students are the last to receive new and exciting resources, if at all. This time, I need help.
I teach history, a subject that is very boring if it's not taught in a way that's engaging and memorable for students.
My projects are all aimed at taking a typically dull subject and bringing it to life.
My Project
In an effort to provide kids with a brain break, as well as increased the physical activity of students, the state of Tennessee passed a new law requiring students to have a daily unstructured activity period.
Now that Fall is here and the days are getting colder, our students wont be able to go outside during their activity period so they need a variety of fun, engaging, and exciting opportunities during this time.
Some students will choose to read, draw, or even do homework. For the other students, who need or desire that fun brain break, they need options that aren't currently available. That's where you come in!
Your donations will help create a cabinet of alternative activities for those students to get a deserved break from the rigors of the classroom (while still using critical thinking skills and strategy to be victorious). The table games like Tenzi, Dominoes, Jenga, and Connect Four provide fun and exciting activities for students that may want a break from the rigors of the classroom but may not prefer or be able to participate in physically demanding activities. For the students that miss the open air and large athletic fields during their activity period, the hula hoops and jump rope provide opportunities for movement, even indoors.
