My Students

Nearly 600 students in grades 1-3, aged 5-9, attend our public primary school in southern Maine. The area is economically depressed, with many children depending on school breakfasts and lunches to supplement their diets. We are a designated Title I school.

Our school is moving towards individual and differentiated instruction.

Our population is very diverse. Student movement within the classroom to help focus their attention, thus increasing their learning, is crucial in today's classroom.

I have 20 smart, energetic second graders who deserve opportunities that will enrich their learning environment!

My Project

We are teaching in scary times. This year (2/15/2018), there has already been 18 school shootings.

The Barracuda Intruder Defense System securely locks an entry point during a lock-down situation.

As a teacher, I wanted to find something I could use to defend myself and my students in the classroom should a threat happen at our school. After researching various door stops I found this one. It's easy to deploy and adds an extra layer of safety.

School safety officials across America disagree on what teachers and students should do when a threat enters the building. Most schools tell teachers to lock their doors and wait for police to arrive. This method is insufficient as proven in past threats.
