I am a sixth grade teacher in an inner city school in Worcester, Massachusetts. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the city, where students speak a multitude of languages. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
Many of my students receive backpacks of food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
Earbuds are a small but vital accessory in the classroom. They allow students to block out surrounding distractions and focus on their work. These earbuds will be used during independent work time. Students have video research, online assessments, and video assignments with verbal instructions to complete. They work at different rates and earbuds allow them to hear their own instructions and not get interrupted by what to student nest to them is hearing. I have a container ready to go in order to keep the earbuds safe and lasting a long time.
Please help make my classroom more conducive to the 21st learning that must go on in order for my students to be successful.
Without having to worry about whiteboard erasers, my students will be ready to participate in math each day. More than that though, our school budget will not need to be used on whiteboard erasers, but can be used on other things. We use whiteboards for math facts, math instruction, vocabulary instruction and more.
