My students need manipulatives and storage bins. I am trying to move to a more hands-on learning environment, so these different math and reading manipulatives will be perfect for improving motor function and encouraging movement.

My Students
We are a part of a low-income/high poverty school, and are faced with many challenges both in and out of school. My students this year are highly motivated learners. They are an active and vibrant bunch, and love to take on new challenges and ownership of their learning. Most school supplies are provided by the teachers. With limited resources, it is challenging to help promote student curiosity, and engage students in learning. Having more resources in the classroom is what we are striving towards. Hopefully this will help close the achievement gap.
My Project
I am trying to move towards a more hands on learning environment. In order to do so I need more manipulatives for my students to experiment with for math and language arts. Students will be able to use linking cubes to skip count and make math problems. They will also be able to build words with their friends during literacy centers. Gears and building sticks will help students practice strategizing and talking out problems and solutions.
I am hoping these manipulatives will bring an element of imagination and play back into my structured learning environment.
Providing students this outlet to strategize and plan with friends while learning and playing will greatly improve their problem solving skills and aid their learning in the classroom.
