My Students

My students are smart, talented, and have an insasiable desire to learn. Many of our students come from socio-economically disadvantaged households. These homes are full of love and parents who want the best for their children, but they are often lacking the means to provide enriched opportunities for them, whether financially or academically.

My students are curious, innovative, and creative.

They love hands-on activities and projects that allow for exploration and invention. Our school vision is to be an exemplary neighborhood school that promotes academic excellence, serves the community, and empowers students to discover their strengths.

My Project

This project is a continuation of my previous two projects. As we prepare for our first ever elementary media team, I want my students to have access to photography equipment beyond just a camera.

“Keeping Our Focus” is a project that will provide a creative outlet with academic enrichment for 4th and 5th grade students.

Students will be instructed in the proper use of a DSLR camera. Students will learn the applied science and math behind aperture, lighting, photo composition, and aspect ratio. The twenty-eight inch ASUS monitor will provide a beautiful visual as students edit their own photographs. Using the external flash will extend what students can do with lighting.

By introducing students to photography in 4th and 5th grade, it is my desire that students discover a love for creative arts and the applied science of digital photography, which they can pursue in high school and college. Students will see the various career fields open to them in visual media and mass communications.

The team of student photographers will have several responsibilities. They will serve as the first ever student yearbook committee for our school. They will use photography equipment and technology to design and create layouts using photographs they have taken. They will film and produces the daily news for our school. Teachers will have a Google Form to request a student photographer for special classroom events or field trips. Student photographers will also use the backdrops to take portraits for families at school events. This is part three of my big project. Each project that is funded gets more equipment into the students hands.
