This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of my advanced robotics students is working on a special project- the Trash Bot! This student has put in countless hours learning 3D modeling, 3D printing, and Arduino programming. While he keeps busy by entering local area robotics contests, he would like to use his skills to give back to the school and potentially the local community.

The trash bot will utilize different sensors and cameras to detect trash and avoid obstacles.

The trash bot will autonomously pick up garbage left behind by students using a lift arm and claw. The trash bot will have a built in GPS to keep in within campus limits. The base of the robot will be a pre-built r/c crawler. Everything will be run by a raspberry pi 3. The robot will traverse the campus in the morning, after lunches, and after school searching for items it recognizes as trash and picking those items up. The robot will have a built in alarm system to prevent theft or vandalism.

My Project

These materials will be disassembled and used as parts to create the trash bot. The charging station will allow for simultaneous charging of both batteries. The 3D printing Filament allows for the construction of custom parts for mounting sensors, cameras, and the Raspberry Pi (which is the brain of the unit).

The Redcat Racing Gen7 crawler will be used as the base, or platform, of the robot.

The batteries will, of course, power the unit. The specific batteries requested are LiPo and will power the unit for longer than standard batteries. The converter is necessary to allow this base unit to be powered via LiPo battery.
