My Project
As a newcomer clinical social worker at Skyline High School, I provide clinical case management to students who have recently arrived to the country in the last 3 years and speak a language other than English. I support newcomer students by connecting them to valuable resources in the community, providing individual wellness check ins, facilitating circles and providing group therapy sessions. Our newcomer youth often arrive alone without the support of their families and are working hard to learn English while navigating new systems.
These snacks will help my students to stay engaged and be able to focus while adjusting to school in the U.S.
Access to food at school helps students participate in class, especially as they learn a new language. Food is also connective and helps students to build comfort and trust in the therapeutic process.
Sharing food is a common practice, despite language barriers, and I hope to be able to offer healthy snacks to continue to build rapport with my students. By providing snacks I also hope to meet the urgent need many students face due to food insecurity at home while also building relationships with students at school.
Thank you so much for considering this request to nourish our newcomer students with healthy snacks. We deeply value your support and commitment to help our young people thrive.
