Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are going to be third graders this fall and some are struggling to read and write sentences. The most amazing thing is that they are trying to read and need books representing their own lives. My students come from working families who speak different languages. They look forward to meeting their new classmates and the new and exciting opportunities that the new school year will bring. With these books, they will be able to make connections and find their interests for their future careers.
My students need Culturally diverse textbooks that they can identify with and that will encourage them to read on their own and with their peers.
Books titles like Courageous History Makers: 11 Women from Latin America Who Changed the World, Native Americans in History A History Book for Kids, and Timelines from Black History Leaders Legends Legacies are just a few texts that can help my students become mentally prepared and feel included in their learning groups.
With these books, we can build our classroom library so that we can continue to learn from one another. We will have the opportunities to build relationships and celebrate diversity and a growth mindset.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
