Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students experience difficulties both academically and socially. Their problems relate to their home situations, financial stability, poor parental involvement and lack of motivation. This transfers negatively into their learning. As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, I would like my students to experience learning in an enjoyable environment. I want to provide activities where they would be engaged and thrilled and get the chance to change their negative feelings of learning into positive ones.

My students need to believe in themselves, that they can be creative thinkers and assets to the community.

Therefore, these activities/projects will give them the chance to do so.

My Project

My students went through a terrible ordeal during the hurricane in Puerto Rico. They lost a lot of their personal items and the insecurity of having their own personal 'stuff' again. It is tough when two groups of students use the same desk and have to keep them organized, safe and clean. This is the problem. I don't want my students to feel vulnerable to other students taking their personal items. This is why It would really help if they have a chair sack to ease the mess in their desk and give them that sense of ownership.

Having already lost so much from Hurricane Maria, I want my displaced students to feel at ease knowing their stuff in the classroom is safe and easily accessible; your help would be greatly appreciated in giving them this security.

These students went through a bad hurricane in Puerto Rico, so I want them to be comfortable and have a clean, organized, safe environment. The sacks would ease the overload, disorganization and privacy of items from two students sharing the same desk; it will make it easy for them to easily find their items, most importantly, it would make my students happy and self-assured again.

Please help us keep our classroom functioning in an orderly way by keeping our 'stuff' organized. Please help my displaced students feel 'at home' again, know they are comfortable and have the things to make them enjoy school again. They would be overjoyed having a chair sack. We are counting on your support.
