Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are lovable, eager to learn, and want to be treated like everyone else. I can not imagine teaching anything but pre-kindergarten special education.

My students come to class with smiles on their faces every single day and do not let their disability define who they are.

Our school is located in a low-income district and 100% of our students receive free lunch. With all of the budget cuts, our school supplies and learning materials budget has been greatly affected.

My Project

Our school, Johnson PreK Center is home to 250 prek students. We are currently at a school that was closed for P2G but reopened as an overflow prek center for the surrounding schools. Having 250+ three and four year olds in one building requires some child proofing. In our gym there are 148 electrical outlets that need protective covers as well as classrooms. I currently have several students who like to stick their fingers in anything they can find. I'm constantly saying "don't touch that." It would be nice to not have to worry about my students sticking their fingers in the electrical outlets and actually be able to play during our gym time. I also including door latches because I have a child that likes to run out of the room and open cabinets.
