This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many students have to learn how to understand and deal with overwhelming emotions. This is especially true for special needs children. They need methods and strategies to help them cope with their anxiety and frustration. I love introducing special needs students to fidget toys and sensory learning tools so that they learn to self soothe.
I have found that using these manipulatives helps them develop fine motor skills and redirects their negative behavior into something positive and productive.
Objects with bright coloring and movement really keeps them engaged. Some students also need activities that help them deescalate from stressful situations.
