My students are tenth graders taking on the rigors of a college-level course. They work extremely hard to learn the history of the United States, plus how to write fact-packed, argumentative essays.
I want to give my students every advantage to do well and earn college credit on the AP test.
Because I am often out of the building for district meetings and committees, I want the students to have the ability to still hear instructions, listen to interactive lectures and essentially have my guidance on some difficult materials. To that end, I sometimes record lectures and instructions with screencastify. I can show students examples and explain different parts of essays or record a lecture with PowerPoint. I would like them to be able to use our laptops to listen to those snippets. I need a class set of headphones that they can use in class.
My Project
One of the most difficult things that I face as an AP teacher is finding a way to make sure that meaningful learning is happening when I am pulled out to attend a meeting or be on a committee. A few years ago I began flipping the classroom by recording some lectures and having students watch at home. While I had mixed success with that, I would like to take the concept and use it in the classroom when I am unable to be there.
When I am absent from the classroom, I want my students to have a learning experience every bit as valuable as the would have if I were there.
Having a class set of headphones would allow me to record lectures, instructions and examples for the students to watch on the laptops and listen to as many times as they needed to without disturbing the other students.
