My Project

Children at this age, specifically Kindergarteners, benefit greatly from having a defined boundary. They are still learning to understand their body in space and often do not leave themselves enough to room to move during activities. Having a defined floor space, such a rug with designated seats, helps students visualize how much space they need between themselves and others. This is especially true for our special needs kiddos. They feel empowered knowing routine, such as an assigned spot, removing the fear of the unpredictable and establishing their own space.

At this time, our classroom lacks a defined space to meet as a class.

Thinking of the Social-Emotional lessons we regularly teach, it's important for students to have the opportunity to share their ideas and feelings with peers. You may know this as "Circle Time" or Morning Meeting. Providing more structure, such as sitting in a circle, promotes engagement and classroom community, by encouraging all to be a part of the group/circle.
