I'm requesting materials to create my own classroom set of task baskets for my special needs students. I also want to provide adequate seating for them to sit up at the table. Many of these students are non-verbal and have cognitive and fine motor delays. The majority of the chairs in my classroom are currently too short for students to sit up at the table and work at a comfortable height.
Task baskets are a great way to teach language, cognitive skills, and fine motor skills to even the youngest learners.
While completing the baskets, teaching staff will use verbal language (in, out, on, same, color words) as well as pic symbols to communicate with students. Students will use cognitive skills such as sorting, matching shapes/colors, and shape manipulation. They will increase fine motor strength and work on crossing the midline.
