This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of diverse and high-achieving kids who come to school ready to work hard and learn every day. They are a great community of learners, and they have so many questions about the world around them!
As a math and science teacher, it is awesome to have students who love to learn and have inquiring minds.
They get so excited when they know we are going to be doing experiments or using manipulatives because hands-on learning is so meaningful to them. They really are amazing kids!
My Project
When I was a kid, I used to absolutely LOVE when my teachers would order us Scholastic magazine subscriptions. I have many students who are avid readers, and I know they would be just as excited as I was to have magazines of their very own to enjoy!
Having a magazine sent to them every week would mean a lot so many of my students, and it would keep them reading nonfiction, which is an important skill to develop.
I would use the magazines weekly to read and discuss a current event as a class, which would lead to great class discussions and a genuine interest in the world outside our school. I really believe having these magazines would help to make my kids more literate, make them become better thinkers, and grow to be more compassionate human beings!
