My Project
Imagine a classroom with students using computers without headphones at the same time. This makes focus difficult for everyone. Headphones allow students to concentrate on independent work while others are pulled into small intervention and strategy groups. The math and language programs the students use are essential for teaching and reinforcing new skills and academic language. I work at a Title I school and most of my students are English Language Learners. Many of my students' parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet, and buying headphones is a luxury. First-graders are also very hard on headphones, and they often need to be replaced throughout the year. Many of the headphones that we started the school year with no longer work.
