My students need these magazines as part of our weekly integration of current events with our writing and reading lessons.
This project expired on December 21, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
We have a boy with muscular dystrophy in our room and he is unable to get upstairs to the main part of our school library. Well, my students applied their understanding of the Bill of Rights and began protests and lots of communication with the Superintendent about the situation.
These wonderful students have been able to convince the Board to approve a long-term plan of adding an elevator or lift to the top floor---until then, a second library has been added to the bottom floor and this grant is needed in order to help fill the library with books for any student who chooses to come here.
We have many students with strong socio-emotional needs and they will be using this library as a more comfortable place to go to. So, will you help begin the first wave of additions to this library for all? The books chosen are based on the interests of the students.
My goal this year is to provide relevance in every area of the curriculum. I want every single reading and writing lesson to connect with important events going on in the world around my students. We will use these magazines to be the springboard for classroom discussions, creative writings, and debates.
The goal is to help my students become the kind of students who look at others with the eyes of empathy and compassion.
These magazines will assist in this goal. The readings will help us understand more about those who we do not understand. This kind of knowledge will help erase any historical fragments of bias or prejudice that may still exist in the minds of some students.
