My students need 2 iPads to access life science curriculum to keep them engaged and to find relevancy in their studies.

My Students

I teach life science and my goal for my students is to inspire them to see the beauty of their cells and the amazing world we live in. The science textbooks are woefully out of date and the iPads allow for engaging lesson plans and more accurate information at the same time.

My students are all 7th grade students between the ages of 11 and 13.

I have approximately 240 students per day. Our student body is very diverse and this diversity is celebrated on our campus. Our school climate is very positive, inclusive and sets high expectations for students and staff alike.

My Project

The students will use the iPads to engage in fun activities in the classroom, from fun review activities, student collaboration on projects and keeping them informed with up to date information on issues studied in class. For example, we study the impact of humans on genetics after we learn the structure of cells. Students can find up to date information on GMO crops, current genetic engineering practices and in-vitro fertilization trends. Students are much more interested if they are provided with current research findings. This is just one example of all the work my students perform using technology during the course of the year. Using iPads for research and activities makes science relevant.

The donation of 2 iPads helps to provide more technology to a greater number of students.

We are trying to attain a level of 1 iPad for every two students. Having technology in the classroom makes sure that all students have access to the same quality of information, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
