This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 5th graders, mostly English language Learners from the Bronx. The majority of them come from poor families, mostly Hispanic immigrant families. They attend a Title I school in one of the poorest districts in NYC. However, regardless of these factors, my students are motivated and eager to learn every day. They love coming to school and working collaboratively with one another.
My Project
Sharing pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and highlighters was always encouraged in the past, but now, it is not ideal. To ensure the safety of all students, they would need to have their own personal pencil case with their own materials inside. My students are from low economic backgrounds and asking their parents for many supplies during this financial crisis is not feasible. Donating to this project will ensure all students have the essentials they need, but, most importantly, it is providing them with personal items to decrease the spread of bacteria and viruses.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
