This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
At the beginning of this school year, I began transforming my classroom from one that had primary colors to a fairy tale, boho, whimsical calming classroom. My students have become even more successful with a calm classroom, soft colors, and gentle lighting. It has been proven that colors are key in children’s learning and development. Kids spend so much of their precious time inside a classroom, why not optimize this special time they spend with us?
I would like to continue this transformation, with more soft lighting, whimsical decorations, and repainting some very old cabinets that have not been painted in 30 years.
I would also like to add some sweet stuffed animals around the room to help my students feel our classroom is their home away from home. My students come from very challenging backgrounds, that include a lot of trauma, so to be able to give my students a cozy and calm classroom, it really does help them to become successful with learning. Learning cannot happen unless they feel safe and loved, and I aim to make our classroom a calm and safe space for them.
