Keeping Focused With ADHD

My Students

Every day we start our day with a new beginning. My students are greeted with a smile and a teacher eager to teach and learn. I believe self motivation and self confidence is a must for being successful which is something I try to reinforce in my students daily.

I teach at a small close-knit school with low to average household family incomes.

My students are a very hard working group of children in a school lacking technological advances compared to many others in the same region and, my students are eager to have the same tools and advantages as nearby schools.

My Project

I have 4-5 kids that have been diagnosed with ADHD. I have a couple of rolling chairs that I use with my students who have issues remaining still due to their disability. These few lucky students, as they refer to themselves, currently have to share these seats with the rest of the class. Having two more "movement" chairs will help my students move their bodies yet, still be able to focus on learning without interfering with the learning of others. Research by a number of experts supports this fidget-friendly mindset. A 2008 study found that children actually need to move to focus during a complicated mental task. The children in the study especially those with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) fidgeted more when a task required them to store and process information rather than just hold it.

With the use of these rolling adjustable chairs my fidgeting students will be able to meet their movement needs while remaining focused on the task at hand.

This will have a direct impact on student achievement.
