This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The resource room is a place for students to come in and request support in any area they struggle in, academically, socially and emotionally. Students who enter the classroom have disabilities and are in need of additional supports that enable them to learn and be successful in school. We went virtual for one year and this broadened inequities for our students.
The students I teach are a part of the special education program at our school and the resources needed will benefit students with disabilities.
In 2020, when we entered the virtual world through teaching, our students persevered as best they could. Their resilience was showcased when they continued to show up via a screen to learn, create and simply socialize within our virtual classroom. This is what has inspired me to further create an online learning experience that not only hopes to support all of their needs, but also focus on reshaping a virtual world that enhances those supports we have in place.
My Project
The materials chosen for this project highlight flexible seating options, tools to support students emotional regulation and self monitoring skills, and health and wellness supplies to keep our students fed and flexible in our space.
The students in our classroom all qualify for Special Education services and receive academic, social, and emotional support.
This project will help students feel more in control and comfortable in our own environment. The items in this project will add more flexible seating options and includes tools to support students emotional regulation. These items will also support students health and well-being by enabling snacks and support students with anxiety and stress regulation.
