Keeping Education Fun

My Students

Our close-knit Title I school is located in a beautiful country setting. The students are energetic, curious and work hard. The parents are positive and the community is a great resource of support.

The students come to school each day to learn so that they can be positive and helping participants in society.

The students work together to support one another both in the school and outside of the school day. Whenever a need arises in the community, our students are always there to lend a helping hand. Therefore, when we can help to pay it forward to the students, we jump at the opportunity.

My Project

How can we liven up the day? We can have students spin the big wheel. Students get excited and engaged when there is a game involved, so why not let them spin the wheel for extra points, a homework pass, a treat, or a toy. Batman and Spiderman will be guarding the wheel or students can spin the wheel for a chance to be hero of the week and get their picture taken with one of the marvels.

Our goal is to improve our daily attendance numbers and create a fun environment.

Students will use the wheel to spin before a test or quiz to see if they can earn the class a couple extra points, drop a question, or they may land on have a smartie, or a lollipop, or a chocolate bar. When you add excitement to the classroom, students get excited. Throughout the year we also do room transformations. The wheel will be used by students for a carnival transformation. Students will use the wheel to spin for prizes, spin for a movement break, spin for an activity. The slots on the wheel are written in with expo markers, so the slots can be changed to whatever you want them to say. Students will use the wheel for study review as well. Each slot can have a question, the student spins the wheel and the other students answer the question. The team with the most points wins a treat. There are endless ways the students can make use of the wheel. The blow up music instruments and candy will be used as fun slots on the wheel in between earning extra points or homework passes. The students will have the opportunity everyday to make use of the wheel in their learning.
