My Students
Taming our feelings is not always an easy thing to achieve, especially for Kindergarteners. Help us find our Peace at our Peace Table!
The majority of my students come from low, socio-economic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch.
My energetic, diverse class of kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds.
My students are: Latino, Arabic, Vietnamese, Filipino, Nepali, African American, Italian, Filipino/Caucasian/Cambodian, and American Indian/Caucasian.
My Project
With these calming toys and art materials, my students will calm their bodies and help themselves when they are sad angry,frustrated,or just need time to calm down.
When my students feel angry, sad, frustrated, etc, they can have a calm place to rest and focus on playing play dough, or using a fidget toy or stamp out a feeling with the feelings stamps and feelings stickers.
They can write or draw and create a personal reminder with the feathers, stickers, and stamps to remind them to " keep calm" "be kind" "use my words" etc
The calming books will teach my students calming techniques such as expressing their feelings verbally, deep breathing, and meditative exercises. Students can self soothe by reading and practicing the calming tips if breathing, yoga, or just read a book about the way they feel.
My students will have valuable skills and be able to calm their bodies and feelings down and be able to voice their feelings in a verbal and positive way.
In addition, my students will have a Positive classroom environment where everybody is encouraged to express their feelings.
