My students need a painting center with brushes, no-spill cups, and a drying rack to create wonderful works of art during center time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to state budget cuts, art is one of the areas most affected. I want to keep the arts alive in my classroom by providing an opportunity for my students to be creative, imaginative, and expressive. Unfortunately, due to a lack of materials, my students do not get the chance to do so as often.
My students are 4-5 year old children who live in a low socio-economic community.
The majority of students are English language learners. They are great kids, but many times have to deal with difficult situations in their lives. Though our school may not be located in a great area, we work hard to give our students an inviting place to learn and experience new and memorable things and an opportunity for a better life.
My Project
Nothing makes my kindergarteners happier then when I tell them it's painting time! Unfortunately painting time is not always an option due to time constraints and budget cuts. As of now, my students paint about once a week (if we are lucky) and use old paint brushes that are falling apart and disposable cups for paint. Oftentimes, tempera paint is wasted because there isn't a way to save the unused paint. With a new painting easel and accessories, my students would have more opportunities to paint on a daily basis. The center would be set up in my classroom ready for use everyday. Groups of students will be able to create works of art related to what we are learning about in class or have time for free paint. Students will be able to express their individuality and creativity.
Not only is painting a fun activity that students enjoy, but it is beneficial for a child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
Art enriches our minds, our development, and our spirit. It can help to express an emotion or used to expand on what students have learned in class. It is important that my students have access to art. The painting center would definitely excite and motivate my students!
