Our students learn in a New York City pre-kindergarten through 8th-grade school. They come from very diverse backgrounds. Over a third of them come from low-income households, and some of them are a part of military families. A significant part of our student body are English Language Learners (ELLs); that is, they are new Americans. The students I teach all have disabilities, as they are a part of a Special Education program.
I've always thought that the elementary and middle school years are a vital time period for children, as this is often when some of them start making the wrong choices.
I became a teacher, in part, to set a good example for children who need role models in their lives. My hope is that I'll have a lasting impact on them.
My Project
Before we know it, it'll be warmer here in NYC. Spring is the perfect season for our kids to get active, and which better way to get active than to play sports.
It's so important to stay active in life, and sports is the best way to do it.
I'm requesting a soccer ball, football, and basketball to give to each of my students, along with a gym bag for them to transport their equipment to and from the playground and a pump to inflate their balls. Having this equipment will give my students the tools they need to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Your donation would help my students thrive, along with their friends in the neighborhood.
