This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We’ve just been approved for a Spanish literacy application for our first graders iPads. Up until this time, we did not have any such type of app to help level our Spanish literacy levels in our Spanish language immersion classrooms.

At this time, we are looking to assess each and every one of our students in our DLI first grade classroom to see the growth that they’ve made over the school year.

Following that assessment, daily use of this app will allow each of our Spanish learners to learn and their individualized levels.

Headphones for each individual student will make the quarterly assessment process and daily use of the app more individualized and quiet. Each student will have a pair of headphones assigned to them, so they can be in charge of their care as well.

Our students are unique at our school as they are multicultural and more than 50% of our Spanish Dual Language learners were not Spanish speakers before beginning the program in Kindergarten. We are seeing a tremendous amount of growth in the learning of the Spanish language of those new Spanish learners as well as strengthening literacy skills for those who already speak the language at home.
