I teach a rockstar group of fifth graders who are eager and motivated learners.
My students come from all areas of town, mostly from an urban setting. I want my classroom to be a place where they can comfortably learn in a safe and exciting environment. This group is extremely diverse in their special learning needs and abilities. Together, as a class, we strive to work together as a team and become the best we can possibly be.
My Project
My students love to play sports and continually move around. So why not bring what they love into the classroom? The goal is to encourage daily movement and incorporate it into our math lessons.
My students need pedometers to track how many steps they take so they can use the data during Math class!
Each student will be allowed to wear a pedometer to track their movement throughout the day. This will encourage them to be more active during the day, especially during recess, gym and brain breaks. At the end of each day they will record their total movement during the school day. After a specific period of time, they will have a whole set of data to graph, find average of, compare, etc.
These pedometers will promote movement and physical activity because they will be competing with another class to see which class can take the most steps and be the most physically active during the day.
