This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach second grade in a low socioeconomic area in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama. My students come to me daily ready to learn and eager to please their teacher by doing their best work. I provide many resources myself for my classroom due to low funding. About 98% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. With only one working computer, we are unable to reach our full potential. My students would greatly benefit from these additional resources.
My Project
My goal for the upcoming school year is to increase attendance. One way to improve attendance is by eliminating the amount of germs that float around in our classroom. Germs lead to many student absences and lost learning opportunities.
Students are coming into school with runny noses and colds, and it is important to stop the spread of germs and keep our classroom healthy.
Wipes and aerosol spray will help decontaminate and clean all of our surface areas in our classroom. And having sufficient Kleenex will enable students to be able to cover and wipe their noses without having to leave the classroom. Once we have created a clean and healthy atmosphere, it will lead to healthier students, improved attendance, and a better education!
I also strive to have a very "homey" classroom. We have a bathroom and kitchen area that we use to make students and parents feel comfortable as they are visiting us.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. McCain and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
