My Project
Students need a lot of supplies to keep them going throughout the year. I would love to take the burden off of my wallet and the parents' wallet by having a pencil box filled with pencils, glue, crayons, erasers, and dry erase markers. I also love building my students personal libraries. I try to purchase books for each major moment! These books help students learn to enjoy reading at home! I included additional items in hopes that I won't run out of glue, pencils, and dry erase markers by March (like the past 2 years).
Each item has been thought out in hopes to keep spirits high and supplies flowing.
The books included will be given as gifts to each student. Rather than giving additional candy, I would love to be able to gift each student with something meaningful that will build their literacy skills.
In addition, students work hard for small treats. M&M's and fruit snacks work wonders when students need motivated to stay focused, especially during a rather extensive ELA block. These small snacks also help hold students over to our late lunch time of 12pm.
My students, each year, become my own. I always ensured my own children had books of all sorts to read. I hope I can give our students this as well. Our population is mostly below the poverty line. Most homes are unable to provide the extra items. This again, will help take some burden off of our families. I can not thank last years donor, Mr. Settler, for his supply of headphones, as those will be able to provide my next class with a new set this coming year, while helping those who needed it this year.
